Lord Ullin’s Daughter in Love with Ulva’s Lord Ullin’s daughter fell in love with a Scottish chief. He was the chieftain of Ulva island. Lord Ullin was against their marriage. At last, the daughter decided to elope with her lover. This enraged Lord Ullin and he gave them a hot chase with his armed men. Narrates His Story to the Boatman The chieftain told the boatman that they had been fleeing together for three days from place to place. Lord Ullin and his armed horsemen were behind them. If they found them in the narrow valley, they would kill him at once. The chieftain asked the boatman not to delay and promised to give him a silver pound as a reward. Valiant Boatman Promises Help The valiant boatman promised that he would row them over the ferry not in the hope of getting a silver pound but for his extremely beautiful bride. The storm had grown fierce. The stormy water was threatening like a ghost. The heaven was scowling. The beautiful lady heard the stamping of the horses. Lord Ullin and his men were quite near. She cried to make haste as she didn’t want to face her angry father. Lord Ullin’s Wrath Changes into Wailing The stormy sea was getting more furious. It was too strong and unmanageable for human efforts. The lovers were rowing just in the middle of the storm. At last both of them met their ‘watery graves’. Lord Ullin reached the ‘fatal shore’. He found his daughter stretching one arm for help and the other around her lover. Lord Ullin assured that he would forgive them. But it was too late. Lord Ullin’s wrath was changed into wailing when he saw his beautiful daughter lying dead before his own eyes.
